On January 27 we held our Annual Congregational Meeting. At that meeting, the membership elected the new church council, including Paul. To finalize the election, please stay after church on March 3rd, 2019, to vote on a temporary modification (also called “Provisio”) to our Church’s bylaws which, with your approval, will allow our Council President-elect Paul to serve an additional three-year term on Council without being restricted by a one-year waiting period.
The Provisio will amend Article IX, Clause 7. Here is a draft of the proposed amendment, with the Provision in bold type. If you have any questions or concerns, please speak to any of the current Council members, the President of the Congregation (Cindy Golden), or Pastor Suzanne.
Proposed new Clause 7 of Article IX of the By-Laws of Trinity Reformed Church United Church of Christ.
7. The twelve Council members shall be elected by majority vote at the annual meeting of the congregation. Their term shall be three years. In order to provide continuity, not more than four members shall be elected to full terms in any one year. Nominations for election to the Council shall be made by a committee appointed each year by the Council. After a member has completed two three-year terms he shall not be eligible for re-nomination for one year.
PROVISO. On the condition of approval by a simple majority of congregation members in attendance after each service on February 24, 2019, Article IX, Clause 6 will be temporarily modified to suspend the one-year re-nomination requirement thus allowing any current member of Council to voluntarily request and serve a 3rd term without the one-year waiting period. Article IX, Clause 7 will revert to its original language, above, on January 26, 2020 or be permanently modified through congregational vote at the 2020 annual congregational meeting.
